Staff List
The Center for Special Studies’ Adult HIV Care Unit provides services to patients 18 years old and older who have been diagnosed HIV positive. The team follows patients as outpatients and inpatients at The NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center. Every CSS patient is assigned to a primary care physician and a social worker who remain constant throughout your care.

Primary Care Physicians
Your primary care physician will oversee all of your HIV related needs, as well
as, other health care needs. Your primary care physician will treat you
as an outpatient at CSS and as an inpatient at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He/She
will also coordinate care with other subspecialties.
Social Workers
Your social worker will assist you in managing both emotional and concrete
issues. Social workers at CSS provide individual, family and/or group counseling,
HIV education, and insurance and entitlement information. Social
workers can also provide referrals to a variety of community based organizations.
Nurses
CSS nurses provide a variety of services. Nurses provide education
about HIV and other illnesses and treatment. Nurses are also available at
any time, in person or by telephone, to address questions or concerns regarding
medications, new symptoms, or any other health related questions. CSS
nurses also provide education about HIV-related diseases, adherence to medications
and prevention. They collaborate with social workers to arrange home
care services ranging from skilled nursing needs to assistance with household
chores, if you are in need and qualify.
Phlebotomists
Our trained phlebotomists will take care of drawing blood, when necessary,
weighing patients, taking vital signs, and adding to your general care.
Psychiatrists
Our psychiatrists are available for your mental health needs. Psychiatrists
help with issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, and/or more complex
mental illnesses.
Gynecologist
Our gynecologist is available to meet women and transgendered patients’ medical
needs including routine examinations, diagnoses and treatment plans for gynecological
concerns.
Dentist and Hygienist
Our dentist and hygienist are available to provide your dental care including:
dental screenings, extractions, and fillings as well as devising a treatment
plan. The hygienist provides dental cleanings.
Nutritionists
Our nutritionists can help you address dietary and nutritional concerns such
as weight loss, food intolerance, “heart smart” eating, and
loss of appetite, among others.
Chaplain
The CSS Chaplain meets with you, regardless of religious or spiritual backgrounds
or beliefs. She provides pastoral support and counseling individually
and in groups.
Administration
These are the individuals at CSS who keep the daily functions of the clinic
running smoothly. They include the program director, office and
program managers and reception staff.
Attorneys
Attorneys from Sullivan and Cromwell, LLP assist patients with legal concerns
related to your health care, including: health care proxies, wills, and
powers of attorney.
Interpreters
Interpreters are available through NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital to provide
translation services in multiple languages, including American Sign Language
and Spanish, among others. Please let the clinic know in advance
if you would like to use an interpreter during your visit.
Volunteers
Volunteers who visit with inpatients and assist in our outpatient clinics
